Upcycled Innovation: JettProof's Commitment to Upcycling

Transformative Sustainability

Upcycling is not just a trend in the textile industry; it's a transformative approach to sustainability. At JettProof, we've taken this concept to a new level, ensuring even small scraps of our quality fabric turn into high-quality, functional products. With the help of Upcycle Newcastle, our textile waste is repurposed instead of added to the landfill. JettProof is proud to commit to upcycling to create a more sustainable and conscientious future in fashion and beyond.

The 92 Million Ton Problem

The textile industry is grappling with a colossal challenge: the world produces a staggering 92 million tons of textile waste annually. This overwhelming waste often ends up in landfills and fuels significant environmental degradation. Shockingly, 87% of the materials and fibres used to make clothing will ultimately end up in either incinerators or landfills, underscoring the pressing need for more sustainable practices.

These significant figures include fabric offcuts and clothing that consumers may discard. Currently, 64% of Australians donate their old clothing to op shops. Others may give it away, sell it, or recycle it, but about 13% will typically throw out their old clothing.

At JettProof, we are committed to minimising textile waste. You can do your part by donating, repairing, or upcycling your old clothing and supporting companies with upcycling practices. By doing so, you are contributing to this important cause and helping to create a more sustainable future.

Innovation is the Solution

Upcycling doesn't just solve the growing waste problem; it's a catalyst for creativity and innovation. At JettProof, we're constantly amazed by the unique and exciting new products that some of our team create from fabric offcuts. From clothing to hats and bags, the possibilities are endless. One organisation that shares our passion for creativity and innovation is Upcycle Newcastle. By donating our scrap materials to this innovative organisation, we reduce waste and contribute to a vibrant community program that inspires others to think outside the box.

Upcycle Newcastle

Upcycle Newcastle uses these materials to teach children and adults valuable sewing skills, turning scraps into meaningful items like friendship bracelets, yoga bolsters and pet toys. For example, 600kg of waste fabrics donated by JettProof and other companies to Upcycle Newcastle were recently repurposed into 120-floor cushions, which were then donated thanks to the support of Lake Macquarie City Council.

"Upcycle Newcastle aims to keep fabric waste from landfills," says spokeswoman Helen Cook, who is passionate about this vision. She invites Newcastle, NSW residents to consider joining their membership program or attending a class with them.
